Rig site in Waterloo, Oklahoma

December 14 - 17 ~

I went to spend the weekend with Aaron at a rig site and to see one too for the first time!! I was curious alright, but wasn't prepared for the experience. Granted, it was great to spend time with Aaron after a week when we last saw each other, but the way of life there is...not easy...!! They pick a deserted area to mount their "Derrick" - the tall thing you see in the first picture - and everything else. Since they use mud in drilling, Aaron told me, to suppress the gas from blowing up all around them, the area around them is marshy!! What that means is that you basically stay in the mobile home and the trailer all the time. For someone as active and "outdoorish" as I am, it was not easy. They have a great mobile home there, lots of room, tv, movies, food, but you just stay in there all the time. Once I ventured out and attempted to take a walk on the deserted road that ran parallel to the rig site, gosh, some hounds from a nearby...I guess... farmer's home nearly hunted me down. They were big and ferocious. They bounded out of the house and towards me and thankfully there was a fence that separated us. Gosh, I nearly jumped out of my skin. Well, that was really the only source of excitement and adrenaline rush on that trip (outside private time with hubby, of course:-). The rest of the time, when Aaron wasn't sleeping, since he worked principally at nights, we could drive out to Wal-Mart, or just watch movies, eat, and chill. I was just telling him today on the phone, when I got back to Arkansas, I went to the gym the next day...today...and ran 3 miles straight. It felt like I had all this cooped-up energy that needed to be released!!! Aaron is waiting for me over the Christmas break...with that experience, the duration of my second stay is still under debate!!:-)

That is Aaron's trailer next to my black car.

Wasteland all around - I took the three pictures below from the door of the mobile home. The white stuff is snow. But thank God, the mobile home and Aaron's trailer were well-insulated and warm. His co-workers were also all very friendly.
